School of Specialization in Hygiene and Preventive Medicine (Public Health)

Dear Doctors, dear Medical Residents,
With great pleasure, on behalf of the Steering Committee of the School and the entire teaching staff, I extend my warm welcome to the School of Specialization in Hygiene and Preventive Medicine of Sapienza University of Rome.
On this website there are some information about the organization of the School, together with all updates and additions that will be necessary in the course of the academic year.

The Bodies of the School of Specialization in Hygiene and Preventive Medicine are:

Currently, with the disposals of the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Medicine (n.ro 194 of 12.02.2013) and the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry (n.ro 220 of 12.02.2013) have been appointed:

GENERAL OBJECTIVES OF SCHOOL

The School of Specialization in Hygiene and Preventive Medicine (Public Health), through educational activities functional to the achievement of the necessary knowledge and skills, aims to train health professionals able to face the current challenges of Public Health, through the achievement of the following training goals:

- acquisition of knowledge of statistical methodology, epidemiology, psychology, sociology, economics, history of medicine, genetic, microbiological, clinical pathology, applied medical technologies, law, chemical and physical parameters of the working and living environment;

- acquisition of the ability to use statistics, information systems, communication systems and legislation in the field of preventive medicine;

- use of basic knowledge and epidemiological methodology for the surveillance and control of chemo-physical, environmental and microbiological risks, genetic diseases, infectious and chronic diseases and accidents in the living and working environment as well as their impact on the quality of life and status of health of the population;

- to plan, manage and evaluate interventions for prevention and education also in terms of health economics and management.

The training activities are divided into lectures and practical training carried out at the Department of Public Health and Infectious Diseases and at Policlinico Umberto I, as well as at the local health authorities, hospitals, regional agencies and research institutions of national importance related to external training network. The School also encourages the international mobility of Medical Residents promoting the holding of internships and placements in foreign institutions of recognized international high quality in the field of research in public health and management of health services.
